Ubuntu 11.04 can't apt-get update

This is the continuation from my last post Gnome 3 on Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal

After I uninstall the Gnome 3 and revert to unity, I've decided to upgrade back to Gnome 3 again, honestly I'm not happy with Unity, it's very lag.

As usual, I run the apt-get update and this is what I got:
E: Type 'ain' is not known on line 3 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gnome3-team-gnome3-natty.list

I try to delete the gnome3 list and successful!
Check the entry:
ls -l /etc/apt/sources.list.d/

and delete it:
rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gnome3-team-gnome3-natty.list

rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gnome3-team-gnome3-natty.list.save

Then run the apt-get update and it should be okay.

Note: After I got this update this morning May 2nd 2011 (Malaysia Local Time), I was surprised that Gnome3 now has included maximize and minimize button, this is awesome news

Gnome 3 on Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal

Last night I slept late until 3:30 am because I wanted to try out Gnome 3  hehe interesting, What I can say is.. wow! it's lighter and faster than the previous one. By the time I'm writing this, The only problem is lack of development on customization software. Maybe it's still new or developers concentrate more on Unity now.

So, let's have a try: (these steps maybe outdated soon because they keep on patching it everyday )
Open Terminal and enter this command

Add to repository:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3

And get the update:
sudo apt-get update

Get the upgrade:
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Now this is important otherwise you'll be shocked by the ugly interface just like windows 95, delete it:
sudo apt-get remove gnome-accessibility-themes

Install the standard Gnome 3 theme:
sudo apt-get install gnome-themes-standard

Restart your PC to complete the update and at the login screen, select Ubuntu Gnome Desktop and there you go, it's done.

In case you don't like it and want to revert back to Unity, follow this to remove Gnome 3.
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge

sudo ppa-purge ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3

aptitude will gives the following output:
Leave the following dependencies unresolved:
     gnome-control-center-data recommends gnome-control-center

When it asks you to enter yes/no: type the following.
- gnome-control-center-data

And proceed to select Y if it asks for any prompt. Logout and select ubuntu, done.

Chris Young - Tomorrow

Today I've been playing this song 51 times, what a lovely and melancholy country song. Awesome lyric too, Chris Young is getting better and better. Let's go country!

It's being played in my playlist to the right

Lyric

Tomorrow I'm gonna leave here
I'm gonna let you go and walk away
Like every day I said I would
And tomorrow, I'm gonna listen
To that voice of reason inside my head
Telling me that we're no good

But tonight I'm gonna give in one last time
Rock you strong in these arms of mine
Forget all the regrets that are bound to follow
We're like fire and gasoline
I'm no good for you
You're no good for me
We only bring each other tears and sorrow
But tonight,
I'm gonna live you like there's no tomorrow

Tomorrow I'll be stronger
I'm not gonna break down and call you up
When my heart cries out for you
And tomorrow, You won't believe it
But, when I pass your house
I won't stop, No matter how bad I want to

Baby when we're good, You know we're great
But there's too much bad for us to think
That there's anything worth trying to save

Tomorrow, I'm gonna leave here
I'm gonna let you go and walk away
Like every day I said I would

Are we entering an age of major earthquakes?

This is an interesting article I've found. Hmm.. just have a read. What do you think?

A number of devastating quakes have struck across the globe in recent years — from Japan to Chile to Haiti — sparking fears that our planet is due to experience even more catastrophic temblors in the near future. Three research teams have now combed through 110 years' worth of global seismic records to see if we might be caught in a global trend of giant earthquakes.
Some say we are; others disagree.

One pair of researchers found clusters of what they called "megaquakes," earthquakes of magnitude 9.0 or greater.

One cluster involved three such quakes between 1952 and 1964, including the magnitude 9.5 Chile quake of 1960, the largest earthquake ever recorded on Earth. Another, larger, cluster of magnitude 8.6 and higher temblors happened between 1950 to 1965, said Charles Bufe and David Perkins, seismologists with the U.S. Geological Survey in Golden, Colo. They speculate that the magnitude 8.4 Peru quake in 2001 could mark the beginning of a new global sequence of major quakes that we are currently experiencing.

"This isn't doomsday — I don't think large earthquakes will occur over a long period of time — but we're saying there seems to be a cluster right now with a higher than normal probability for large quakes," Bufe told OurAmazingPlanet. "I don't know how long this cluster might last — if we don't get another large earthquake in maybe the next 10 or 12 years, I would say we're probably out of the cluster."

Bufe suggested that by sending seismic waves traveling around and around the planet's surface, very large earthquakes might weaken fault zones that are already very close to failure. "I think there's a more than 50 percent chance we'll see another magnitude 9 quake sometime in the next decade or so," he said.

Just chance?

On the other hand, this apparent recent spike in large quakes could just reflect random fluctuations in global patterns of seismic activity. A statistical study from U.S. Geological Survey researcher Andrew Michael at Menlo Park, Calif., suggests this seeming cluster pattern disappeared once local aftershocks of the large earthquakes are taken into account.

"The most important lesson is that random doesn't mean uniformly distributed in time — instead, random processes create apparent clustering and it is important to carefully consider whether apparent clusters, or times of less activity, go beyond what is expected from a simple random process," Michael told OurAmazingPlanet. "So far, my results show that the apparent clustering is consistent with a random process."

If the apparent clustering of these quakes is a matter of chance, then seismologists can't say whether or not another huge temblor is likely to erupt anytime soon.

"The recent spate of great earthquakes can be explained as a random fluctuation without predictive power for the future," Michael said. He added that global predictions of earthquakes and the damage they inflict should use the longest possible historical record for an area "rather than focusing on the recent past."

Long-term record
Seismologist Richard Aster at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology and his colleagues looked at historical catalogs of earthquakes along with more recent findings to create a long-term record of the cumulative size of earthquakes around the world.

They suggest there were relatively low rates of big earthquakes during the periods 1907 to 1950 and 1967 to 2004. However, they found the rate of large earthquakes increased substantially during the period 1950 to 1967 and appears to be on the rise again since 2004, since the devastating magnitude 9.1 to 9.3 earthquake that struck Indonesia and generated a massive tsunami late that year.

Still, this finding "is not statistically differentiable from randomness," Aster told OurAmazingPlanet.

Progress into understanding whether there are ages of major quakes or not may be slow "because we just don't get that many great earthquakes to produce a better sampling of this natural process," Aster said.

"We only get a few magnitude 9-plus earthquakes per century, for example — fortunately for earthquake risks around the world, these events are rare," Aster said. "There are only 14 earthquakes in the past 111 years greater than magnitude 8.5."

Michael agreed. "The main limitation is that we don't have enough data," he said. "We can't say that clustering doesn't exist. We can only say that the data doesn't let us reject the hypothesis that the data is random. If there was more data, then the results could change — but that will take decades to occur."

The scientists detailed their findings on April 14 at the Seismological Society of America meeting in Memphis, Tenn.

David Cook - The Last Goodbye

My friend Lori introduced me this song and I got addicted to it haha. I keep playing it many many times. New single from David Cook, Last Goodbye.

Lyric:
If you hear this on the radio
Then we've already said our last goodbye
I won't be there when you get home
By now there's someone else that hears you cry

I wonder if he holds you like I did
I hope that he can love you better
Cause we were everything that's right at the wrong time
CHORUS:
I didn't want to lose you
Leave you with a broken heart
But wherever we are, we're miles apart
I know that we tried, but this is the last goodbye
Oh, I didn't want to let you go
But wherever we are, we're miles apart
I know that we tried, but this is the last goodbye

We were almost beautiful
A broken piece of art put on display
But we were never possible
Another perfect moment thrown away

I know somebody out there will love you
They'll be the forever we never were
Cause we were everything that's right at the wrong time

Walkers in Siberia found the body of an alien near UFO hotspot

It's hard to believe and if it's true then all the theories about alien are correct? The truth is out there whether we have been trolled or not
On Wednesday, two walkers in Siberia claim to have found the body of an alien, and took a video of their findings.  The video was taken Wednesday, April 20, 2011 near Irkutsk, Russia.
The video shows a small, slender, damaged body lying in the snow.  The alien is approximately 2 foot high and part of the right leg is missing.
The area near Irkutsk, Russia has been called a UFO hotspot and people have reported numerous sightings of aliens and UFO's near that area.
'We couldn't believe it when we saw it. And what was spooky is that there was no sign of the spaceship. Perhaps that was taken away and the body overlooked,' said Igor Molovic who uploaded the video.

Commit Suicide

A tough looking group of bikers were riding when they saw a girl about to
jump off a bridge so they stop.

The leader, a big burly man, gets off his bike and says, "What are you
doing?"

"I'm going to commit a suicide," she says.

While he did not want to appear insensitive, he didn't want to miss an
opportunity he asked "Well, before you jump, why don't you give me a Kiss?"

So, she does and it was a long, deep lingering kiss.
After she's finished, the biker says, "Wow! That was the best Kiss I have
ever had. That's a real talent you are wasting. You could be famous
Why are you committing suicide?"

"My parents don't like me dressing up like a girl......"

Lady and a driver

A stark-naked drunken woman jumped into a vacant cab.

The Indian driver was immediately beside himself and just kept on staring at the woman.

He makes no attempt to start the car.

“What's wrong with you sunshine, haven't you ever seen a naked white woman before?”

“I'll not be staring at you lady, I am telling you, that would not be proper, where I am coming from".

"Well if you’re not bloody staring at me matey, what are you doing then?

"Well, I am telling you, I am thinking to myself, where is this lady keeping the money to be paying me with."

She is Miranda, Miranda Lambert!!

Alright, if you ask me what is my favourite pop/country female singer, she's Miranda Lambert! Miranda have a good vocal and she's really a pure country singer! my favourite songs are famous in a small town, I can't be bothered, dead flowers, the house that built me, easy from now on, bring me down, greyhound bound for nowhere, that's the way the world goes' 'round, dry town, lying here and many more!
Her full name is Miranda Leigh Lambert and was born November 10 1983. Her father Rick is a country guitarist and songwriter who gathered friends and neighbors often to his rural home. During the week, he and Miranda's mother Bev run a detective agency. But country music is the heart of the household on weekends, with the young Lambert raised on the songs of Guy Clark, Jerry Jeff Walker, Merle Haggard and her dad.
After seeing Garth Brooks play in Dallas when she was 10, she entered her first country talent contest, singing Holly Dunn's "Daddy's Hands," with her father accompanying her on guitar. Her bedroom was soon decorated with country-star photos. She began annually attending Nashville's Fan Fair festivities at age 13 and was soon an avid autograph collector. At age 14, Rick bought her a guitar, but to his surprise, she expressed no interest in it. Lambert was 16 when she heard of the Tru-Value country talent contest. She entered and placed well in the Texas competition. She began appearing on the Johnny High Country Music Review in Arlington, near Fort Worth, the same show that helped launch LeAnn Rimes. She attended a music-business seminar in Nashville, which led to a demo recording session. But she hated the four pop-country songs chosen for her. When she returned to Texas, she asked her father to teach her the guitar, so she could write her own songs.
She was inspired by the examples of singer-songwriters like Jack Ingram, Allison Moorer, Guy Clark and Emmylou Harris. One talent contest led to a contract with an agency that got her a small part in a Ruffles potato chip ad and work in the 2001 teen comedy movie Slap Her She's French. In Nashville, she placed second out of 400 for the role of Tammy Wynette in the musical Stand by Your Man.
At age 17, Lambert formed her Texas Pride band and landed her first professional singing engagement. It was at Deep Ellum's Gypsy Tea Room in Dallas. Closer to home, she earned the "house band" job at the Reo Palm Isle Ballroom in Longview while in high school. Built in the 1930s and having showcased everyone from Elvis Presley to Willie Nelson, it is the oldest continuously operated ballroom in Texas.
In 2001, Rick funded a $2,000 CD showcasing his daughter's songs, and her younger brother Luke created a Web site to sell it. Bev drove her to radio stations to promote it and called clubs to get her bookings. The family invested in a motor home, a sound system and an equipment trailer. Starring in Annie Get Your Gun was one of her last high school activities and she graduated early to devote herself to music.
She toured on the Texas music circuit throughout 2002 and placed two songs from her CD on the Texas music charts. In January 2003, she placed first in the Texas auditions for the series Nashville Star, and moved to Nashville to appear on the show. She finished third but ultimately signed with Sony Music, one of the show's sponsors. Her debut album Kerosene debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard country albums chart in early 2005.

Here's some of her music videos, have a listen to it, if you're country music lover, I bet you'll love it. Visit http://www.mirandalambert.com

Supergiant star Betelgeuse undergo Supernova

Well, this was posted by me at miricommunity on January 22, 2011. I would like to re-post it here in my Blog, hahahaha!

This is quite an interesting news for astronomers, I hope I can see it in my lifetime ...while doomsday freak will abuse it
This is what's happening around the internet regarding this news:
Tatooine's twin suns - coming to a planet near you just as soon as Betelgeuse explodes
- Betelgeuse losing mass
- Explosion will create "new sun"
- May be set for 2012 appearance

IT'S the ultimate experience for Star Wars fans - staring forlornly off into the distance as twin suns sink into the horizon.

Yet it's not just a figment of George Lucas's imagination - twin suns are real. And here's the big news - they could be coming to Earth.

Yes, any day now we see a second sun light up the sky, if only for a matter of weeks.

The infamous red super-giant star in Orion’s nebula - Betelgeuse - is predicted to go gangbusters and the impending super-nova may reach Earth before 2012, and when it does, all of our wildest Star Wars dreams will come true.

The second biggest star in the universe is losing mass, a typical indication that a gravitation collapse is occurring.

When that happens, we'll get our second sun, according to Dr Brad Carter, Senior Lecturer of Physics at the University of Southern Queensland.

“This old star is running out of fuel in its centre”, Dr Carter said.

“This fuel keeps Betelgeuse shining and supported. When this fuel runs out the star will literally collapse in upon itself and it will do so very quickly.”

When this happens a giant explosion will occur, tens of millions of times brighter than the sun.

The bad news is, it could also happen in a million years. But who's counting?

The important thing is, one day, night will become day for several weeks on Earth.

“This is the final hurrah for the star,” says Dr Carter.

“It goes bang, it explodes, it lights up - we’ll have incredible brightness for a brief period of time for a couple of weeks and then over the coming months it begins to fade and then eventually it will be very hard to see at all.”

The interwebs is being flooded with doomsday theories saying the impending supernova confirms the Mayan calendar’s prediction of the Armageddon in 2012.

These conspiracies aren’t helped by the word “Betelgeuse” being associated with the devil.

Though it is a derivation of the Arabic phrase “yad Al Jauza” meaning the “hand of Al-Jauza” referring to a mysterious woman that controls the order of the universe, it hasn’t stopped some people from clearing out their bunkers and stocking up on tinned food.

Far from being a sign of the apocalypse, according to Dr Carter the supernova will provide Earth with elements necessary for survival and continuity.

“When a star goes bang, the first we will observe of it is a rain of tiny particles called nuetrinos,” says Dr Carter.

“They will flood through the Earth and bizarrely enough, even though the supernova we see visually will light up the night sky, 99 per cent of the energy in the supernova is released in these particles that will come through our bodies and through the Earth with absolutely no harm whatsoever.”

Stars such as the supernova produce elements that are critical to life on Earth.

Quite literally, the whole of Earth and our solar system is made of star stuff, including most of the heavy elements of the Periodic Table.

“It literally makes things like gold, silver - all the heavy elements - even things like uranium….a star like Betelgeuse is instantly forming for us all sorts of heavy elements and atoms that our own Earth and our own bodies have from long past supernovi,” Dr carter said.

Some experts have speculated Betelgeuse’s explosion may cause a neutron star or result in the formation of a black hole approximately 1300 light years from Earth, but Dr Carter says it could go either way.

“There’s a reasonably even chance of a neutron star or a black hole”, he says.

“If it were me, I’d suspect it would more likely become a black hole at 20 solar masses.”

Yes, according to NASA, it will undergo a supernova explosion anytime but no one knows the exact time and it's harmless too.
"Betelgeuse is a candidate to undergo a spectacular supernova explosion almost anytime in the next few thousand years."
